Obituary of Alice B. Kirker

Mrs. Alice B. "Barney" Kirker, 92, of Lafayette Street, Palatine Bridge, New York died Wednesday, July 1, 2015.
Born on August 28, 1922 in Springfield, KY, she was the daughter of Morgan and Myrtle Cheatham. She was a graduate of Springfield High School, Class of 1941.
Mrs. Kirker worked briefly in an airplane factory in Akron, OH as a Riveter in 1942. She then moved to New York City where she became a fashion model. She met and married William H. Kirker in 1945. In 1948 Alice and her husband moved to Canajoharie and in 1951 they purchased their home in Palatine Bridge.
Mrs. Kirker was one of the founders of the Palatine Literary Society. She volunteered for many years as a pollster for the Palatine Election board, taught adult education sewing classes, was a Cub Scout den mother and a patron of the Arkell Foundation Library and Art Gallery.
Alice was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, and was an avid reader. She touched the hearts of all that knew her.
Her husband of 60 years, William Kirker in 2006; her sisters, Ann Potter, Benda Moore, Hazel Rich, and Louise Isaacs and her brothers, John D. Cheatham and Vance Cheatham, predeceased Alice.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary Louise Chiesi (Ronald) of Middle Village, NY; son, J. Edward Kirker (Sandra) of Ithaca, NY; grandchildren, Amanda Kirker, Nathan Kirker, Allison Settineri, Ashley Kirker, Kimberly Hegarty, Brittany Kirker; great-grandchildren, Kayla, Patrick, Matthew, Julia, Virginia, Ada, Genevieve, and Noelle.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, July 6, 2015 at 6:00pm at The Chapel of Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, Inc., 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY. The family will receive relatives and friends on Monday from 3:00-6:00pm at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Cemetery Hill in Springfield, KY at a later date.
