Obituary of Alan J. VanWie

Mr. Alan VanWie, 73, of Honey Hill Road, Fort Plain, New York passed away on Friday, October 23, 2015 at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady, NY following a short illness.
Born on October 26, 1941 in Amsterdam, NY, he was the son of John VanWie and Angelica Groff VanWie. He was a graduate of Canajoharie High School, Class of 1960. He attended SUNY Cobleskill College and was a lifetime area resident.
Mr. VanWie was employed with Beech-Nut and Life-Savers in Quality Control for over 28 years. He then went to work for Temper Corp as a machine ring maker.
He was of Catholic faith.
Mr. VanWie was an Exempt Fort Plain Volunteer Fireman. He belonged to various drum and bugle corps. He enjoyed spending time at Royal Mountain Campground in his camper. Alan was a NASCAR Racing fan, rooting for Dale Ernhart, Jr.
On July 18, 1964 in Gloversville, NY, Alan was married to Sandy Hall. Together they celebrated over 51 years of marriage.
He was predeceased by parents, grandparents, brother, Charles VanWie, several aunts, uncles and cousins.
His wife, Sandy VanWie of Fort Plain, NY; his dogs, D.J. and Kasey; uncle, Barton VanWie of Canajoharie; nieces, nephews and several cousins survive Mr. VanWie.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 27, 2015 at 11:00am at The Chapel of Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, Inc., 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY 13317. The family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday from 10:00-11:00am at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Evergreen Cemetery in Fonda, NY.
