Obituary of William L. Mowrey

Mr. William L. Mowrey of Canajoharie, NY passed away in the presence of family on November 17, 2015 at Palatine Nursing Home. He was 86 years old.
Bill was born on July 15, 1929 in Canajoharie, NY, to William H. Mowrey and Mary Alice Smith. He graduated from Canajoharie High School in 1948 and went on to train as a tool and die maker through an apprenticeship program at General Electric. He worked for GE in their Research and Development Laboratory for 43 years, retiring in 1992.
Bill married Charlotte Jewell on October 15, 1949 in Canajoharie, NY. They had three children, Joanne, Mark and Susan. Bill and his family moved to Scotia in 1955 and then to Burnt Hills, NY. In 2006 he returned to Canajoharie.
Dedicated in his service to God, Bill was involved with the initial creation of Immaculate Conception Church in Glenville, NY and remained active there until 2006. He was a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society ICC and for The Albany Diocese as President. Dad was a close friend and caregiver of Rev. R. Mansfield Starks from Bill's time as an altar server at St. Peter's & Paul's in Canajoharie until Father's death in 2004. He was always active in his community. Bill was known for his generosity and was always quick to lend a helping hand. He was active with his local boy scout troop as a leader and mentor. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and shared many happy memories with family camping and boating.
William Mowrey is survived by his three children, Joanne Mowrey, Mark Mowrey, and Susan Baiamonte; son-in-law, Jim Baiamonte; daughter-in-law, Gillian Mowrey; sister, Mary C. Collins; aunt, Marie Mowrey; and grandchildren, Alex and Eileen Mowrey and Stephanie, Chris and Nicholas Baiamonte. He is also survived by several in-laws, nieces, and nephews.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Charlotte and dear friend, Jeanne Slaper.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, November 23, 2015 at 10:00am at the Church of Immaculate Conception, 400 Saratoga Road, Scotia, NY. The family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday, November 22, 2015 from 3:00-6:00pm at The Chapel of Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, Inc., 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY 13317.
