Mr. Loren F. Prime, 84, of Martin Street, Fort Plain, New York died Sunday, November 22, 2015 at Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown, surrounded by his family.
Born on October 6, 1931 in the Town of Minden, NY, he was the son of Herman A. Prime and Evelyn Mowers Prime. He was a graduate of Fort Plain High School, Class of 1950 and was a lifetime area resident. He received his Associate's Degree from SUNY Morrisville after returning from the Korean War.
Mr. Prime was the owner and operator of Herman A. Prime Garage, Inc. in Fort Plain for many years, taking over the business that was first started by his Parents.
Loren was a veteran of the US Marine Corps, serving during the Korean War. He was the recipient of the Purple Heart.
He was very active in The Boy Scouts of America, Troop #61. He was past Scout Master and past Cub Scout Leader for many years.
Mr. Prime was married to Shirley Kilmartin. She preceded him in death in 1974.
Mr. Prime is survived by his 5 children, Lee Prime of Fort Plain, NY, Grant Prime and Mimi of Philmont, NY, Philip Prime and Shawna of Menands, NY, Amy VanAlstyne and Chuck of Fort Plain, NY, Kyle Prime of Fort Plain, NY; sister, Dolly and Harry Peplinski of Cooperstown, NY; 9 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at 1:30pm at The Chapel of Gray-Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, 34 Center Street, Fort Plain, NY. The family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday from 12:30-1:30pm at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Fort Plain Cemetery.
