Mr. William Henry Parker, Jr., 92, of Orchard Street, Canajoharie, New York died Saturday, August 20, 2016 at St. Johnsville Rehab & Nursing Center.
Born on December 14, 1923 in Eldred, NY, he was the son of William H. Parker, Sr. and Eleanora Siebert Parker. He was a graduate of Eldred Central School, Class of 1941. He had been a resident of Canajoharie since 1948.
Mr. Parker was employed with the former Hay Trade Journal as a Line A Type Setter. He then worked for the Canajoharie Police Department from 1950-1953. Following his employment with the Police Department, Mr. Parker, worked for the Courier Standard as a Line A Type Setter. He was Superintendent of Beech-Nut from 1970-1987, and from 1987-2000 he was a dispatcher for the Montgomery County Sheriff. He was a member of the Canajoharie Volunteer Fire Department for over 50 years.
He was a veteran of the US Navy, serving during World War II as an Aviation Machine Mate.
Mr. Parker was a communicant of Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church.
On April 11, 1944 at the former St. Peter's & Paul's Catholic Church in Canajoharie Bill was married to Mary E. Whalen. She preceded him in death on March 24, 2011. His son, Gary W. Parker; daughter, Sandra Parker; brothers, Stanley Alston, Howard Parker; sisters, Eleanora Palmer, Doris Thompson, Elsie Clouse, Hazel Iasiello, Sheirley Scarano also predeceased him.
Mr. Parker is survived by his sons, Randall Parker and his wife, Diane of Wilton, NY, Michael Parker of Akron, OH; daughter, Susan M. Parker of Canajoharie, NY; half-sister, Mary Almosch; 5 grandchildren, Matthew Parker, Erika Parker, Michelle Raymond, Heather Parker Crabtree, Jeffery Parker; great-grandson, Colton Crabtree; step-great-granddaughters, Bella and Gaby Crabtree; several nieces, nephews, cousins, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, August 26, 2016 at 11:00am at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, Reid Street, Fort Plain, NY. The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, August 25, 2016 from 4:00-8:00pm at The Chapel of Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, Inc., 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY. Burial will take place in St. Peter's & Paul's Catholic Cemetery with full Military Honors at graveside.
