Obituary of Mary E. Bender

Mrs. Mary E. Bender, 90, formerly of Cobleskill, New York died October 12, 2016 at Palatine Nursing Home, where she had been a resident since July 2013. Mary was born September 3, 1926, in the Town of Cobleskill, the daughter of Guy Lott and Millie (Markle) Lott. She was a devoted bookkeeper for Selkirk Hardware Store (Ace) for over 25 years. In retirement, she enjoyed working in her flowerbeds and going to yard sales and auctions where she searched for beautiful dishes. She enjoyed crocheting and made the most beautiful doilies and afghans imaginable. Mary is survived by her three children, Sandra Miller (Edward Miller) of Citra, FL, Paula Weaver (William Garretson) of Cherry Valley, James Bender ( Linda Sheppard) of Sprakers, NY; 2 grandchildren, Carl Guy Lenz and Kathleen Mary Weaver; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Mary was predeceased by her 4 siblings, Georgianna Slater, John Lott, Guy Lott, Jr., and Gertrude Edwards. At Mary's request, there will be no calling hours or services. Arrangements are under the direction of Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, Inc., 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY. Burial will take place in the Bramanville Prospect Cemetery in Cobleskill.
