Obituary of Marion L. Stevens

Mrs. Marion L. Stevens, 90, most recently of Palatine Bridge, New York died Thursday, November 10, 2016 at Palatine Nursing Home. Born on March 29, 1926 in Canajoharie, NY, she was the daughter of Earl Vosburgh and Ethel Wasserman. She was a graduate of Canajoharie High School, Class of 1945 and was a lifetime area resident. Mrs. Stevens was a mother and homemaker most of her life, however during World War II, she worked for Beech-Nut in Canajoharie. She was of Methodist faith. Mrs. Stevens sang with The Valley Choralaries for many years. She enjoyed walking around Town and being outdoors, reminiscing of her younger days on the farm. She loved gardening in her rock garden, growing rose bushes and sitting on her front porch. She was an avid reader, often stating that she had read all the books in the Canajoharie library from each genre. On August 4, 1945 in Canajoharie, NY, Marion was married to Donald C. Stevens. He preceded her in death on January 30, 2005. Her sisters, Beatrice Voght, Gladys Birdsong, Norma Wells; brother, Earl W. Vosburgh, Jr. and grandson, Joseph Blackman also predeceased her. Marion is survived by her 3 sons, Craig and Linda Stevens of Fort Plain, NY, Greg and Cheryle Stevens of Clifton Park, NY, Scott and Cindy Stevens of Canajoharie, NY; 2 daughters, Michelle and Tom Ashworth of Milford, PA, Linette Stevens of Jamestown, NY; sister, Jean Mueller Patterson of TX; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, November 15, 2016 at 1:00pm at Ames Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, Inc., 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY 13317.
