Obituary of Joan T. Crabill

Mrs. Joan T. Crabill, 84, most recently of Arkell Center Apartments, Canajoharie, New York died early Wednesday morning, December 21, 2016 at St. Mary's Healthcare of Amsterdam, with her family by her side. Born on June 18, 1932 in Canajoharie, NY, she was the daughter of Orson and Hazel Smith. She was a graduate of Canajoharie High School and of Cobleskill College with an Associate's Degree. She was a lifetime area resident. Following College Joan enlisted in the US Navy. Mrs. Crabill worked for many area nursing homes, hospitals, and hospice programs, as an LPN retiring from Montgomery County Manor. She served on the Board of Elections and attended Sprakers Reformed Church. Mrs. Crabill was a life member of the American Legion. She was also a member of the Margaret Reaney Writer's Group. She enjoyed sewing, puzzles, playing pinochle, and cards with her friend Bev's family. Her son, Danny Crabill, and sisters, Jeannie Slaper, Gretchen Abeling, Karen Smith predeceased her. Mrs. Crabill is survived by 4 children, Meredith and Greg Yacobucci of Canajoharie, NY, Randy and Carol Crabill of Virginia Beach, VA, Kim Armstrong of Crestview, FL, David and Joyce Crabill of Holt, FL; daughter-in-law, Susan Mallory of Sprakers, NY; 5 grandchildren, Rebecca and Bill Logan, Darcy Rouse, Jeremy Crabill, Justin and Nikki Armstrong, Olivia and Brian Tanner; 11 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and good friends. A celebration of Joan's life will be held privately at a later date. Arrangements are entrusted to Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, Inc., 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY 13317.
