Obituary of Marilyn Haggerty

Mrs. Marilyn Haggerty, 74, of Center Street, Fort Plain, New York died Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on March 8, 1941 in Fort Plain, NY, she was the daughter of Everett Smith and Laura Vosburgh Smith. She was a graduate of Fort Plain High School and was a lifetime area resident.
For the past 25 years Marilyn was devoted to her beloved Church, the Fort Plain United Methodist Church, as their secretary. Prior to working for the Church, she was the legal secretary for Allen Samuels.
Mrs. Haggerty was in many shorthand competitions and was even offered a job in Washington, D.C. For over 40 years Marilyn served as Sunday School Superintendent at the Church. She was very active with the Mohawk Pathways Girl Scouts, serving as the Associated Manager for many years and being on the Council for 40 years, in addition to serving several other positions with the Girl Scouts, such as Troop Leader.
On April 11, 1970 at the Fort Plain United Methodist Church, Marilyn was married to George Haggerty. He preceded her in death on December 12, 2013. Her son, Franklin Colvin also predeceased her on December 11, 2013, as well as her brother, Leon Duesler in 2013.
Mrs. Haggerty is survived by her daughter, Bonnie Lynn Colvin Tyler of Fort Plain, NY; sister, Maxine Callahan of Mohawk, NY; grandson, Kristopher Colvin of Fort Plain, NY; granddaughters, Jessica Hoffend of Webster, NY, Nicole Twardoz of Fort Plain, NY; great-grandchildren, Arianna, Dominik, Maxwell; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A funeral service will be held on Sunday, December 27, 2015 at 5:00pm at The Chapel of Gray-Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, 34 Center Street, Fort Plain, NY with Rev. Alan Griffith officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday from 3:00-5:00pm at the funeral home. A graveside service will be held on Monday, December 28, 2015 at 11:00am at Fort Plain Cemetery.
