Mrs. Darlene "Dolly" Bates, 67, of Palatine Bridge, New York died on Friday, December 25, 2015 at Palatine Nursing Home, following a short illness. Born on April 19, 1948 in Cooperstown, NY, she was the daughter of Clarence Porath and Sarah Dillenbeck Porath. She was a graduate of Fort Plain High School and was a lifetime area resident. Mrs. Bates was most recently employed by Richardson Brands in Canajoharie and had also worked for the Daniel Green Felt Shoe Factory. She was of Baptist faith. Mrs. Bates loved her children and grandchildren. She was a fan of Elvis and enjoyed puzzles. Her daughter, Sarah Davis predeceased her. Mrs. Bates is survived by her sons, Jeffrey and Veronica Davis of Canajoharie, NY, Mark Bates of Fultonville, NY; daughter, April Pipero of Canajoharie, NY; brothers, Steven Porath and Russell Porath, both of Amsterdam, NY; 5 grandchildren, Colin and Landon Davis, Jose, Joseph, and Liberty Pipero; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 31, 2015 at 5:00pm at The Chapel of Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY with Rev. Nancy Ryan officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday from 4:00-5:00pm at the funeral home. Following services, cremation will take place at Park View Crematorium. Burial will take place at Fort Plain Cemetery in the Spring. Contributions in memory of Mrs. Darlene "Dolly" Bates may be made to a charity of one's choice.
