Sanford "Sandy" Benton, 90, of Third Avenue, Canajoharie, died Friday evening, April 4, 2008, at St. Mary's Hospital, Amsterdam following a brief illness. Mr. Benton was born in Canajoharie, New York on December 8, 1917 to Ervin and Ethel Ferguson Benton. He attended Canajoharie Schools. In 1981, Mr. Benton retired from Beech-Nut-Lifesavers Corporation in Canajoharie where he worked in the Gum Processing Department. He resided in Canajoharie for the last 54 years. Mr. Benton was a Veteran of World War II, serving in the US Navy. He was of Methodist Faith. He was a former member of the Little Falls American Legion and a member of the Beech-Nut 25 Year Club. He married Marion Young on July 13, 1939 in Cherry Valley, New York. Survivors include his wife, Marion Benton, of Canajoharie, New York; his son, Sanford E. Benton and his wife Vdzinta of Gloversville, New York; his grandchildren: Deborah and her husband Kurt Jordan of Broadalbin, New York, Duane and his wife Beth Benton of Johnstown, New York, Patricia Payne of Gloversville, New York, Stephen Blaze and his wife Paula of Branchburg, New Jersey, and Sharon Wilcox and her husband Tobin of Fly Creek, New York; eight great-granddaughters and three great-grandsons.
