Ruth Foster Lipowicz, age 88, of Canajoharie, New York, and Clearwater, Florida, passed away on Saturday, April 19, 2008, at Highland Hospital in Rochester, New York, after a long illness.
Ruth was born on September 21, 1919, in Akron, New York, the daughter of the late Dr. Arthur and Mina Foster. Ruth graduated from Buffalo State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education in 1942, and a Master's Degree in Education from Syracuse University in 1953. Ruth and her beloved husband, Edward W. Lipowicz, joined the Canajoharie Central School System in 1942. While there, she taught art in the high school and elementary school for 40 years, retiring in 1982.
Ruth was an accomplished and award-winning water color and portrait artist. Her paintings were awarded "best in show" awards at art shows in both New York and Florida. She was also a member of the Central New York Water Color Society and other national art associations.
Ruth was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and Monday Evening Club, and a life-long and faithful member of the Canajoharie Methodist Church.
Ruth was preceded in death by Edward, her beloved husband of 60 years. Ruth is survived by her son, Robert Lipowicz of Fairport, New York; daughter, Nancy L. Adlhock of Fairport, New York, son-in-law, Larry Adlhock, and granddaughters, Jessica Marks and Samantha Marks; son, Richard A. F. Lipowicz of Dayton, Ohio, daughter-in-law, Susan M. Lipowicz, grandsons, Ted and Drew Lipowicz, and granddaughters, Ann K. Lipowicz and Paige Lipowicz Schuckmann; and sister, Lucille Weaver, age 92, of Akron, New York, and St. Augustine, Florida.
