Obituary of Franklin Bogardus

Mr. Franklin Bogardus, 88, of Jefferson Heights, Catskill, New York, died Wednesday, April 23, 2008 at Columbia Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his family.
Born on October 13, 1919 in Cherry Valley, NY, he was the son of the late Harry Bogardus and Lena King Bogardus.
Mr. Bogardus was self-employed as a general contractor.
For many years Franklin and his wife spent their winters in Sebring, FL and were active in the Sebring Senior Citizens Club. He enjoyed playing shuffleboard. Mr. Bogardus was the founder of the Wiles Park Horseshoe club as well as the Sebring Horseshoe club.
Franklin served in the United States Army during World War II from July 1945 until May of 1946.
He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Fort Plain, NY.
On September 16, 1941 Franklin married Celia Jones. Celia preceded him in death on February 2, 2008. Mr. Bogardus is also predeceased by a sister, Rachel Flint and a brother, Clarence Bogardus.
Mr. Bogardus is survived by a daughter, Betty Hermance of Hudson, NY; a son, Frank and his wife Jacklyn Bogardus of Rensselaer, NY; a step-daughter, Twila Denegar of St. Johnsville, NY; and a step-son, Ralph Phillips of Pine Hills, CA. He is also survived by sisters, Margaret Cotton, Elizabeth Snyder, and Phyllis Smith; grandchildren, Nathan and Tonya Bogardus, Diane McCrady, William Hermance, Jr., Sheri Fascella, Garth and Gordon Eggleston, Garlyn Maginnis, and several great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren in California and New York.
