Nicholas Zaccagnino, Sr., 83, of Webster Street, Fort Plain, New York, died suddenly Tuesday, May 6, 2008 at his home.
Born on November 1, 1924 in New Rochelle, NY he was the son of Leonardo and Catherine Zaccagnino.
Mr. Zaccagnino was self-employed as a landscaper/gardener in New Rochelle with his brother for nearly 30 years. He was also the owner and operator of Sprout Brook Store from 1969-1975.
He had been a resident of Fort Plain since 1980, previously residing in Pelham, NY and Sprout Brook, NY.
Mr. Zaccagnino was of Catholic faith.
He was a lifelong gardener. His garden on Webster St. was once named "Garden of the Year" by the Fort Plain Garden Club.
Nicholas married Marie Roberta Joyce Abrams in 1951 at St. Joseph's Church in New Rochelle, NY. She preceded him in death on February 15, 1973. Nicholas is also predeceased by two brothers, Joseph "Pip" and Donato "Danny" Zaccagnino, and his loving companion, Dorothy L. Shumaker on June 11, 2002.
Mr. Zaccagnino is survived by four daughters, Rebecca Sherman of Hopewell Junction, NY, Catherine Fragoso of White Plains, NY, Anna Stalter of Ithaca, NY, Laura Jackson of Sharon Springs, NY; three sons, Leonardo Zaccagnino of Sprout Brook, NY, Nicholas Zaccagnino, Jr. of Spotsylvania, VA, Jacob Zaccagnino of Delmar, NY and a brother, Leonard Zaccagnino of New Rochelle, NY. He is also survived by 19 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
