Mrs. Barbara P. Wheadon, 78, of Maple Avenue, Canajoharie, New York died Thursday, February 16, 2017 at Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown.
Born on September 8, 1938 in Amsterdam, NY, she was the daughter of Carl and Dorothy Heiser Putnam. She was a graduate of Fort Plain Central School, Class of 1955 and Albany Business College, Class of 1956. She was a lifetime area resident.
Mrs. Wheadon was employed as a Clerk-Typist in the Installment Loan Department of the former Central National Bank. She did child care for several years, and retired in November 1999 from Canajoharie Central School District (the former West Hill School) as an Instructional Aide.
Mrs. Wheadon was a member of The Fort Plain United Methodist Church; St. Peter's & Paul's Christian Welfare Committee; Ayres Memorial Animal Shelter, and The National Society for The Preservation of Covered Bridges.
She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, traveling, jigsaw puzzles, reading, gardening, and covered bridges.
On January 9, 1959 Barbara was married to Gerald Wheadon. He preceded her in death on January 29, 1994. Her brother, Edward Putnam also predeceased her.
She is survived by her daughter, Annette Twardy and her husband, Michael of Ballston Lake, NY; sons, David and his wife, Sue-ann of Palatine Bridge, NY, Jeffrey and wife, Elizabeth of Palatine Bridge, NY; 4 grandchildren, Vanessa Wheadon of Cooperstown, NY, Nicholas Wheadon of Palatine Bridge, NY, Sarah Wheadon of Schenectady, NY, Jordan Twardy of Johnstown, NY.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, February 20, 2017 at 6:00pm at The Chapel of Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, Inc., 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY. The family will receive relatives and friends on Monday, February 20th from 4:00-6:00pm at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Fort Plain Cemetery in the spring.
