Mr. Loren Wesley Moulton of Ladysmith, VA, departed to his heavenly home on Sunday, February 19, 2017.
He was born May 13, 1918 at Charleston Four Corners, New York, the son of Leon E. Moulton and Mary Sprague Moulton.
He received his elementary education in Canajoharie, NY, graduating from Canajoharie High School, Class of 1938.
In December 1941, right after the attack on Pearl Harbor, he enlisted in the US Marine Corps and joined the First Marine Division. He was in the invasion of Guadalcanal, British Solomon Islands on August 7, 1942 and the landings on Cape Glouster, New Britian and Peleleu, Palau Islands.
In November 1944, he returned to the United States and was assigned to the Guard Company at Quantico, VA, where he was discharged October 1945 with the rank of First Sargent. While serving in the South Pacific he was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation with two stars and the Asiatic-Pacific metal with four stars.
On December 16, 1944, he married Janet Adele Kettler at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Canajoharie, NY. Janet passed to her heavenly home on February 1, 1999.
Loren retired from Arkell and Smiths-Chase Bag Company on May 13, 1983 after forty-four years as a cost estimator and assistant treasurer. He was a member of the American Legion, Post 553, South Glens Falls and a life member of Memorial Detachment #2, Marine Corps League, Glens Falls. In past years, he was active in Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and a coach in Little League Baseball in South Glens Falls. He was a long time member of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, Glens Falls, NY.
On July 30, 2001, he married Jane Countryman Baker who passed away on September 8, 2015.
He was predeceased by his sister, Margaret Moulton Patulski, mother and father, wives, Janet and Jane; daughter, Molly Kingsley.
He is survived by his three children, Adele La New, Celia Langey, Evan Moulton and their spouses; his grandchildren Wesley LaRose, Sunny LaRose, Marc La New, Michael Ross, Shawn, Todd, and Devon Quackenbush, Erin Mullin, Clay Moulton, Amber Moulton-Mister, and twelve Great-Grandchildren; step-son, Dennis Baker and his spouse, their children, and grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, February 24, 2017 at Noon at The Chapel of Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, Inc., 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY with Rev. Zachary Labagh officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday from 11:00-12:00pm at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Canajoharie Falls Cemetery with military honors at graveside.
