Mrs. Rachel M. Scabar, 88, of St. Hwy. 80, Fort Plain, New York, died Monday evening, October 13, 2008 at her home.
Born on January 18, 1920 in the Town of Danube, New York, she was the daughter of Lester Spaulding and Myrtle Mae Smith.
She was educated at Frog City Country School.
Mrs. Scabar worked as a waitress for over 19 years for many area restaurants.
Her life was spent in the Fort Plain area.
Mrs. Scabar was of Lutheran faith.
She loved gardening, and her flowers. She also enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
On December 5, 1969, Rachel married Charles Scabar in Ames, New York. He preceded her in death on November 29, 2003.
Mrs. Scabar is survived by three sons, Homer L. Buddles III of Fort Plain, NY, Gary R. Buddles of Fort Plain, NY, Donald Durfee of Mohawk, NY; daughter, Kay Blasting of Herkimer, NY; sister, Lesta Walker of Orange City, FL; 27 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; several great-great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mrs. Scabar is also survived by her former husband Don Durfee.
In addition to her husband Charles, Mrs. Scabar is predeceased by her first husband Homer Buddles, Jr.; a son, Lester L. Buddles; sister, Anna Bell Sanders; and her brother, Lester Spaulding, Jr.
