Eugene D. Becker, 82, of Honey Hill Road, Fort Plain, New York, died Monday, November 17, 2008 at his home. Born on January 27, 1926 in Rensselaerville, NY, he was the son of Grant Becker and Anna DeGuise. Mr. Becker left school at the age of 17 to join the Marines during World War II. At the age of 40 he went back and received his General Education Diploma. Mr. Becker worked for Beech-Nut Corp. in Canajoharie, NY as an assembler. He had resided in the Fort Plain area since leaving the service. Mr. Becker achieved the rank of Corporal, while serving in the U.S. Marine Corp. during World War II in the Asian Pacific. He courageously fought at the battle of Iwo Jima. He was a member of the Fort Plain United Methodist Church. Mr. Becker was a loving father and husband. He was the past Commander of the VFW Earl Stock Memorial Post #3275. On April 24, 1948 he married Nona M. Osborn at the Fort Plain United Methodist Church. This past April, they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Mr. Becker is survived by his wife, Nona M. Becker of Fort Plain, NY; daughter, Gayle Campbell and her husband Don of Amsterdam, NY; two grandsons, Jeffery Derrico of Amsterdam, NY, Brett Derrico and his wife Lindsay of Richmond, VA; and two great-granddaughters, Kasia Derrico and Luella Derrico. Mr. Becker was predeceased by a son, Ronald Becker; a sister, Theresa Spine; and a brother, Grant Becker, Jr.
