Mrs. Arlene G. "Gram" Horning, 78, of Crouse Street, Fort Plain, New York, died early Sunday morning, December 28, 2008 at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany, New York following a long illness.
Mrs. Horning was born May 4, 1930, the daughter of Isaac and Ida M. Moore Sanders. She was a life-long area resident and was educated in Fort Plain Schools. She was employed as a machine operator at Life Savers in Canajoharie for 25 years, retiring in 1988. She then provided private home health care in the area for many years.
Mrs. Horning was a member of the Beech-Nut 25 Year Club. She had attended the Village Bible Church in Fonda, New York. She enjoyed working crossword puzzles and watching game shows on TV. She loved to travel to visit family members.
She was married on May 6, 1961 to Elmer E. Horning who predeceased her on May 26, 1996. She was also predeceased by her daughter, Dolores A. Skinner, her sister, Frances Hull, and two brothers, Raymond and Leland Sanders.
Mrs. Horning is survived by three sons, Bryan I. VanGorder and his wife, Terry of Canajoharie, New York, Elmer E. Horning, Jr. of Palatine Bridge, New York, Samuel J. Horning and his wife, Sharon of Palatine Bridge, New York, and two daughters, Mila A. Failing and her husband, Donald of Fort Plain, New York, Jane I. Davis and her husband, Doc of Palatine Bridge, New York. She is also survived by her sister Viola Johnson of St. Johnsville, New York and her three brothers, Cecil Sanders and his wife, Elsie of Palatine Bridge, New York, Lee Sanders and his wife, Jean of Fort Plain, New York and Everett Sanders of South Carolina. "Gram" has 23 grandchildren and many, many great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
