Ms. Garna B. Marsh, 70, of Fair Street, Otego, New York died Friday, January 9, 2009 at Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown due to a long illness with diabetes related complications.
Born on October 28, 1938 in Fort Plain, NY, she was the daughter of Garner A. Beck and Edith C. Eaker Beck. She was a graduate of Fort Plain Central School, attended SUNY Potsdam and later graduated from Farmingdale, Long Island School of Dental Hygiene with an Associate's degree in 1959.
Ms. Marsh worked in New York City for a group of dentists and later worked for many years in Skaneateles, Oneonta and Otego. In recent years she was an antiques dealer, doing shows and having shops in Oneonta, Glenwood Manor in Glens Falls and also Warrensburg.
In 1961 at the Universalist Church in Fort Plain she was married to Alfred Marsh, who was also of Fort Plain.
Ms. Marsh was predeceased by her father and her two brothers, Lawrence in April 2006 and Dana in September 2008.
Besides her mother, who was her best friend, she is survived by her daughter, Wendy at Vivian Howard Teal Nursing Home, Syracuse and a son, Michael of Liverpool, NY. She is also survived by an aunt, Elizabeth Empie of Fort Plain, NY, her dear sister-in-law, Bonnie Beck, niece, Nichole Beck, Nephew Travis Richard of California. Other survivors include cousins, Sheila Pitkin and her husband Richard of Corinth, Jody Di Loreto and her husband Daniel of Rochester, David, Penney, Harry, Craig, Bruce and Jeffrey Hough of Gloversville, Lance McAllister and his wife Ruby of Liverpool, Patty Adams and her husband Bo of Mohawk, Darcy and her husband Tom Ball of East Syracuse, Garth McAllister of Mohawk; as well as many friends and co-workers.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Gray-Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, 34 Center Street, Fort Plain, NY 13339. A memorial service will be held in the spring in Fort Plain, with the date to be announced.
