Obituary of Thomas M. Waner

Mr. Thomas M. Waner, 57, of McEwan Road, Canajoharie, New York left his earthly home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, February 2, 2016, following a courageous battle with cancer, with his wife by his side. Born on November 8, 1958 in Amsterdam, NY, he was the son of Richard A. Waner and Janet Clouthier Waner. He was a graduate of Canajoharie High School and was a lifetime area resident. Mr. Waner worked for Unique Tree Service for over 20 years, previously working for LifeSavers in Canajoharie. He was a member of Community Bible Church, where he served as Deacon. Mr. Waner enjoyed hunting, fishing, and ice fishing. He loved spending hours taking care of his lawn and trees. Tom helped many people, never saying no to helping others. On May 13, 1993 in Ephratah, NY, Thomas married Pamela O'Connor. Together they celebrated over 22 years of marriage. Thomas' father, Richard A. Waner predeceased him. Mr. Waner is survived by his wife, Pamela Waner of Canajoharie, NY; mother, Janet Waner of Canajoharie, NY; step-daughter, Christine O'Connor of Myrtle Beach, SC; step-son, PJ O'Connor of Canajoharie, NY; sister, Sharon and Sam Horning of Palatine Bridge, NY; 2 granddaughters, Cassandra O'Connor, Dorothy Dodson; niece, Trista Schimpf (Rich); nephew, Jason Horning (Ashley); many aunts, uncles, cousins, great-nephews, great-nieces; as well as many special friends. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 6, 2016 at at 11:00am Community Bible Church, Upstate Chapel, Cliff Street, Canajoharie, NY with Rev. Wally Braemer officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, February 5, 2016 from 4:00-7:00pm at The Chapel of Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, Inc., 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY. The family would like to extend a special Thank You to the NYOH of Amsterdam's Nurses and Staff for their outstanding care and compassionate treatment of Mr. Waner and his family.
