Obituary of Robert C. Eckler

Mr. Robert C. Eckler, 90, of Wiltse Hill Road, VanHornesville, New York died Wednesday, January 14, 2009 at his home with his sister by his side following a short illness.
Born on September 12, 1918 in VanHornesville, NY, he was the son of Percy H. Eckler and Daisy Lafler. He attended VanHornesville Central School and was a lifelong resident of VanHornesville.
Mr. Eckler first worked at Owen D. Young's stock farm, which was known for its world class Holsteins. He then worked for the New York State Canal System as a welder, leaving that behind to go to the Queensburrow Creamery in VanHornesville. Mr. Eckler then moved on to become a farmer on his dairy farm for over 12 years. He then tired of that and went on working for the Town of Stark, until he most recently worked for the former Haynes Brothers International Tractor dealer in Cherry Valley. He still found time to work as a bartender at the Four Seasons Resturant and Bowling Alley on Rt. 80 in VanHornesville.
Mr. Eckler enjoyed hunting and fishing in his younger years. He also loved to collect all sorts of lamps throughout his life.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Russell J. Eckler and a sister, Ethel M. Johnson.
Mr. Eckler is survived by a sister, Mary Helen Oakley of VanHornesville, NY; two nieces, Bonnie Nestle and Cheryl Eckler; and a nephew, James Eckler.
