Mrs. Janet "Irma" Lamphere, 76, of Lafayette Street, Palatine Bridge, New York died early Friday morning, January 23, 2009 at her home following a brief illness.
Born May 31, 1932 in Stone Arabia, NY, she was the daughter of Frank Jewell and Ethel Young Jewell. She was a lifetime area resident and a graduate of Canajoharie Central School, Class of 1950.
Mrs. Lamphere was a loving wife and mother and was also a domestic housekeeper for many area families.
She was a member of the Salem United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Lamphere was the president of the Ladies Circle of Salem United Methodist Church, president of the Fort Plain, Nelliston Senior Citizens Group. She was also a lecturer for the Seebers Lane Grange. Mrs. Lamphere loved spending time with her family and playing cards.
She was married on August 16, 1958 in Marshville Evangelical Church to Donald F. Lamphere. Together they celebrated 50 years of marriage.
Mrs. Lamphere was predeceased by a brother, Milton Jewell and sisters, Frances Ford Canup and Charlotte Mowrey.
She is survived by her husband, Donald F. Lamphere of Palatine Bridge, NY; three daughters, Melanie Lamphere of Gloversville, NY, Dara Lamphere of Gloversville, NY, Rea Ellen Lamphere and Jim Allard of Hereford, AZ; two sons, Dale and his wife Randie Lamphere of Ames, NY, Randall and his wife Colleen Lamphere of Crossville, TN; four grandchildren, Andrew and John of New York, Ashley and Joshua of Crossville, TN; a sister, Elinor and Bob Groeger of Atlanta, GA; two brothers, Daniel and Virginia Jewell of Marshville, NY, Leon Jewell of Fort Plain, NY and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
