Obituary of Mary M. Darrow

Mrs. Mary M. Darrow, 93, formerly of Sprakers, New York died Saturday, February 6, 2016 at Palatine Nursing Home. Born on May 18, 1922 in Herkimer County, NY, she was the daughter of Raymond McNamara and Mary Murphy McNamara. She was a graduate of Canajoharie High School, Class of 1939, graduating a year early. She was a lifetime area resident. Following graduation Mrs. Darrow got a job at Beech-Nut. She was very proud of that. She worked for Beech-Nut for 2 years, prior to getting married. Mrs. Darrow was a communicant of Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church. Mrs. Darrow was a 4H Leader and a longtime member of the Maple Town Grange, where she served as treasurer. She enjoyed sewing and cooking. Mary was very devoted to her family, immediate and extended. On November 6, 1943, Mary was married to Kenneth A. Darrow. He preceded her in death on October 20, 2012. Her daughter, Janice D. Klemme and brother, Edward McNamara also predeceased her. Mrs. Darrow is survived by her daughter, Patricia D. and Edward Young of Palatine Bridge, NY; 2 sons, Robert D. and Karen Darrow of Glennville, NY, William K. and Jean Darrow of Webster, NY; son-in-law, Karl Klemme of Mayfield, NY; 12 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, February 12, 2016 at 11:00am at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, Reid Street, Fort Plain, NY 13339. The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday from 9:00-10:30am at The Chapel of Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, Inc., 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY 13317. Burial will take place at Fort Plain Cemetery. Contributions in memory of Mrs. Mary M. Darrow may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Ave., Gloversville, NY 12078.
