Mr. Richard Gary Snyder, 62, of Wheeler Street, Canajoharie, NY died Friday afternoon, February 20, 2009 at his home.
Born on September 7, 1946 in Little Falls, NY, he was the son of John Snyder and Irene Brookman Snyder. He graduated from Owen D. Young School, class of 1965. He was a lifelong area resident.
Mr. Snyder had most recently been employed at Walmart in Amsterdam, NY.
Mr. Snyder was a Veteran of the Vietnam War serving in the US Marine Corps. He received the Civil Action Colors Cross of Gallantry with Palm and Frame.
He was of Protestant faith.
Mr. Snyder was a life member of the VFW Earl Stock Memorial Post 3275 and a past member of the Memorial Squad at the post. He enjoyed morning coffee at the Village Restaurant. He was an avid Giants, Yankees and Syracuse fan. He loved going to Dover for the NASCAR Race.
On September 10, 1983 at the Canajoharie Methodist Church, Mr. Snyder was married to Janet Countryman. Together they celebrated 25 years of marriage this past September.
Mr. Snyder is predeceased by his parents, brother, John "Butch" Snyder and by his sister, Pauline Swartz.
He is survived by his wife, Janet Snyder of Canajoharie, NY; a daughter, Jaynie Snyder of Canajoharie, NY, she was affectionately known as "Daddy's Little Girl"; a sister, Lorraine Voght of Fort Plain, NY; brothers, Stephen Snyder of Ilion, NY, James Snyder of Amsterdam, NY, and Kevin Snyder of FL. He is also survived by his partner in crime, Grand Doggy, "Buddy"; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
