Obituary of Elmer T. Evenson

Mr. Elmer T. Evenson, Jr., 93, of Lafayette Street, Palatine Bridge, NY died Sunday, February 22, 2009 at the Mountain Valley Hospice House following a lengthy illness.
Born on October 3, 1915 in Avon, OH, he was the son of Elmer T. Evenson, Sr. and Jenny Anderson Evenson. He was a graduate of Avon High School, class of 1932 and attended the University of Miami in Southern Ohio. Mr. Evenson had been a resident of Palatine Bridge for 31 years, previously residing is South Plainfield, NJ.
Mr. Evenson was employed with Sherman Williams Paint Co., starting his career in the Depression and retired in 1977 with the title of Eastern Transport Manager.
He served in the US Army during World War II in the European Theatre. He received the Purple Heart.
Mr. Evenson was a Councilman for the Town of Palatine for a number of years. He was very proud of his vegetable and flower garden. He had taught himself the art of caning, and over the years caned hundreds of chairs. His greatest joy was spending time with his three granddaughters.
He was married on June 6, 1937 in Avon, OH to Beatrice Frey. She preceded him in death on January 2, 2009. He was also predeceased by two brothers and a sister.
Mr. Evenson is survived by his son, William A. Evenson of Palatine Bridge, NY; three granddaughters, Amanda Evenson of Fort Plain, NY, Katie Bottger of Marshville, NY, Sara Evenson of Marshville, NY; two great-grandchildren, Anthony Evenson and Caitlin Wiesenborn, both of Fort Plain, NY; a daughter-in-law; Christine Evenson of Marshville, NY; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family with R. W. Williams officiating.
