Obituary of Edward C. Tompkins

Mr. Edward C. Tompkins, Jr., 61, of Gilbert Street, Johnstown, New York passed away peacefully on March 19, 2009 due to a long battle with lung cancer at his brother's home surrounded by family members.
Born on May 27, 1947 in Sprakers, NY, he was the loving son to Clarence E. Tompkins and Regina M. Downing Tompkins.
He was a graduate of Canajoharie High School, class of 1966.
Ed worked at Beech-Nut as a machine operator for 12 years. He then worked for GE as maintenance personnel and then moved on to work construction. He worked many years helping to build the Gilboa Dam as a carpenter's helper. He was a caretaker for his mother and father and did many odd jobs in the area including assisting the Gerald Leamon Hay Truck Company.
Ed was a big fan of the muscle car era and loved his '68 roadrunner. He was also a big fan of Elvis.
Anyone who knew Ed knew he would take his shirt off his back to help anyone. He will be missed by many.
Edward is survived by three brothers, William E. Tompkins and his wife, Diane Tompkins of St. Johnsville, NY, Thomas P. Tompkins and his partner, John Mastroianni from Johnstown, NY, James A. Tompkins of Sprakers, NY; a very dear friend, Marianna Kilar; many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Hospice for the love and care that they gave our brother. It really made him happy.
The family will hold a private memorial service at a later date.
