Guy Richard Siegle, 82, of State Highway 5 in Palatine Bridge, New York, died Saturday, April 4, at home with his family following a long illness. He was born in Palatine Bridge on October 4, 1926, the son of Charles H. and Jeanette Fisk Siegle.
Mr. Siegle was a lifelong area resident. He was educated at Canajoharie schools and was employed as a machine operator for Life Savers in Canajoharie for 45 years, retiring in 1989.
Mr. Siegle was a Veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He was a member of St. John's & St. Mark's Lutheran Church and a former member of the Church Council. He was a member of Beech-Nut 25 Year Club, Canajoharie/Fort Plain Garden Club, Canajoharie Civic Beautification and Past Treasurer for Boy Scout Troop #83 of Palatine Bridge. Mr. Siegle was a member of the Smith-Schultz American Legion Post #222 of Canajoharie and past Montgomery County Commander and Post Commander. He was well-known throughout the community for his Chicken Barbeque and clam chowder which he prepared for many civic activities. He was an avid camper and fisherman.
Mr. Siegle married Margaret Armstrong on March 21, 1970 at St. John's & St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Canajoharie. He was predeceased by a son, Martin William Field and two brothers, Charles H. Siegle, Jr. and Theodore "Teddy" Siegle and a sister, Lois Gattman.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret A. Siegle of Palatine Bridge, three daughters, Andrea Null of Fort Plain, Viola, and her husband Tom Pliszek of Ilion, and Rosemary and her husband, David Reese of Canajoharie, and two sons, Guy John Siegle of Fort Plain, and Elmer Armstrong Field of Nelliston, one brother, Carl Siegle of Johnstown, 12 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and a special cousin, Florence H. Briffa of Rochester.
