Obituary of Leon A. Ingalls

Mr. Leon A. Ingalls, Sr., 69, of Barclay Street, Canajoharie, New York, died Friday, May 1, 2009 at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam following a brief illness. Born on January 5, 1940 in Utica, NY, he was the son of Leon L. Ingalls and Virginia Bombace Ingalls. He attended Utica Free Academy. Mr. Ingalls retired from Syrstone Construction in Syracuse, NY. He had been an area resident since 1970. Previously he resided in Utica, NY. On June 25, 1960 he married Jean Schreck. Mr. Ingalls was of Catholic faith. He was a member of the Local #1 Union of Utica, Local #35 Union of Utica and loved to buy and sell antiques. He enjoyed auctions, gardening, fishing, and spending time with his family and friends. Mr. Ingalls is survived by his wife, Jean S. Ingalls of Canajoharie, NY; sons, Leon A. Ingalls, Jr. of Canajoharie, NY, Harold Ingalls and his wife Amy of Springboro, OH, Robert "R.B." Ingalls of Canajoharie, NY; daughters, Cheryl and her husband Mark Klump of Fort Plain, NY, Michele and her husband Jake Dillenbeck of Fonda, NY; sisters, Joanne and her husband Bert Barter of Sauquoit, NY, and Jessie Fiorini of Whitesboro, NY. He is also survived by grandchildren, Kevin and Justin Klump, Samantha and Austin Ingalls, Johnathan and Jenelle Dillenbeck and Olivia Ingalls. A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 8, 2009 at 12:00pm at Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, Inc., 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY 13317 with Rev. R.W. Williams and Brother Edward Bick officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, May 7, 2009 from 4:00-8:00pm at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Canajoharie Falls Cemetery, Canajoharie, NY.
