Obituary of Constance Jean Lettis

Mrs. Constance Jean Lettis, 92, formerly of Erie Blvd., Canajoharie, New York died Sunday, March 5, 2017 at Palatine Nursing Home. Born on April 18, 1924 in the Town of Palatine, NY, she was the daughter of Alton Empie and Mary Heron Empie, the fourth of thirteen children. She was a graduate of Sharon Springs High School, Class of 1943. Mrs. Lettis was employed with Beech-Nut in Canajoharie, NY, from 1943 to 1986. She enjoyed her family, reading, animals, and social activites with her friends at Palatine Nursing Home. She was a member of the former St. Peter's & Paul's Catholic Church in Canajoharie. On December 1, 1955 at St. Peter's & Paul's Catholic Church, Jean was married to Roy W. Lettis. He preceded her in death on June 19, 2005. She was also predeceased by her sisters, Betty Carpenter, Lucille Mackey, Patricia Empie, Joan Searles; brothers, William, Edward, Michael, Robert, Leo, John, and Richard Empie; step-son, William Lettis. Mrs. Lettis is survived by her son, Edward Lettis of Phoenix, NY; sister, Arlene Gajowski of St. Johnsville, NY; 3 grandchildren, William R. (Kim) Lettis of Kansas, Thomas (Vicki) Lettis of Michigan, Kathleen Jaquay of Rotterdam, NY; several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at 12:30pm at Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, Inc., 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY with Rev. R.W. Williams officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday from 11:30-12:30pm at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Fort Plain Cemetery.
