Mr. Robert J. Caponera, 55, of Cedar Lane, Fort Plain, New York, died Sunday, May 10, 2009 at Little Falls Hospital unexpectedly.
Born on February 6, 1954 in Little Falls, NY, he was the son of Joseph Caponera and Joyce Carbury Caponera. He was a Fort Plain resident for 23 years, previously residing in St. Johnsville.
He was a graduate of St. Johnsville High School and obtained his Associate's Degree while serving in the U.S. Army.
Mr. Caponera was most recently employed at Walmart Distribution Center in Sharon Springs, NY. Prior to working for Walmart he worked for Beech-Nut for over 20 years in many capacities.
Mr. Caponera served active duty in the U.S. Army from May 1973 until May 1979. He then enlisted in the U.S. Army National Guard, retiring with the rank of Captain.
He was of Catholic faith.
Mr. Caponera was a life member of the Fort Plain VFW Earl Stock Memorial Post #3275, and a life member of the American Legion, Fort Plain Post #554. He enjoyed hunting, camping, fishing, boating, and spending time at the camp at Pine Lake.
On June 15, 1991 he married Susan Jackson.
Mr. Caponera is survived by his wife, Susan A. Caponera of Fort Plain, NY; children; Mike Stanton and his wife Nicole of Ray Brook, NY, Heather Crewell and her husband Scott of Fort Plain, NY; brothers, Albert and Debbie Caponera of St. Johnsville, NY, David and Mamie Caponera of Massachusetts, Thomas and Melissa Caponera of St. Johnsville, NY; sisters, Donna and Jim Carter of St. Johnsville, NY, Linda Caponera of California; grandchildren, Syri and Tyler Crewell of Fort Plain, NY; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and his dog, Darcy.
He is predeceased by his parents.
