Obituary of Richard E. Cummings

Mr. Richard "Dick" E. Cummings, 79, of Waddell Ave., Fort Plain, New York died Tuesday evening, June 30, 2009 at the Folts Home, Herkimer, following a long illness. Born March 21, 1930 in Syracuse, NY, he was the son of William Edward Cummings and Rose Johnson Cummings. He was a graduate of Syracuse Central High School, class of 1948. He had been a resident of Canajoharie and Fort Plain since 1968, previously residing in Syracuse. Mr. Cummings was a supervisor at GTE-Contel Phone Company for 22 years, retiring January 1, 1990. He was of protestant faith. Mr. Cummings was a Veteran of the US Army, serving during the Korean War. He was a former member of the Mohawk Valley Lions Club and past president. He was also on the board of directors for the Lions Club. Mr. Cummings was a former riding member and former board member of the Mid-County Volunteer Ambulance Co. On July 8, 1978 in Palatine Bridge, NY, he was married to Karen A. Keller Streed. Mr. Cummings was predeceased by his parents and a brother, William, Jr. He is survived by his wife Karen A. Cummings of Fort Plain, NY; daughters, Susan Shackelton and Tim of Cobleskill, NY, Linda Heiser and Jason of Canajoharie, NY; step-son, Mark Streed of Rockford, IL; five grandchildren, Bryan Shackelton, Elizabeth Shackelton, Benjamin Heiser, Maggie Heiser, Stephanie Streed and two nephews.
