Mr. Julius J. Yacobucci, 93, of East Main Street, Nelliston, NY, died Wednesday, August 19, 2009 at Saratoga Hospital in Saratoga Springs, NY.
Mr. Yacobucci was born on August 16, 1916 in Canajoharie, New York, the son of Cataldo and Louisa Corsi Yacobucci. He attended Canajoharie Schools and was a lifetime area resident.
As a young man, he worked as a pastry chef at the former Beech Nut Hotel in Canajoharie. He enlisted to serve his country in the US Army Air Corps during World War II and attained the rank of Corporal. After the war, he was employed at Beech Nut and Life Savers for over 45 years as a machine adjuster.
He was a communicant of St. James Roman Catholic Church, a Life Member of the VFW Earl Stock Memorial Post #3275, Fort Plain, NY, a volunteer policeman for Nelliston, NY for several years and an avid hunter and fisherman.
He married Pacifica D'Arcangelis on December 10, 1939 at Sts. Peter and Paul's Roman Catholic Church in Canajoharie, NY. She predeceased him in May, 1978. He was also predeceased by his brothers, Albert, Alfred and Floyd and his sisters, Yolanda Barker, Angelina Kwaitkowski and Alice Donato.
Mr. Yacobucci is survived by his daughter, Louise (Thomas) Flanders of Canajoharie, NY, two sons, Joseph (Bonnie) Yacobucci of Killingworth, CT and James (Wendy) Yacobucci of Milton, FL, his brother, Alfred P. Yacobucci of Canajoharie, NY, 5 grandchildren, Col. T. Patrick Flanders, Mary L. Douglass, David Yacobucci, Jeffery Yacobucci and Stephanie Frasier, 10 great-grandsons, several nieces, nephews and cousins and his special friend, Ann Soposki.
A prayer service will be held at 9:15 am on Tuesday, August 25 at the Chapel of Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, Inc., 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY, followed by Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 am at St. James Roman Catholic Church, Reid Street, Fort Plain, NY with Father James E. Clark officiating. Burial will take place at Sts. Peter & Paul's Cemetery in Canajoharie, NY with full military honors presented by the US Army and the Fort Plain VFW Memorial Squad.
The family will receive friends and relatives from 5:00 to 8:00 pm on Monday, August 24 at the funeral home.
