Leona Ella Shibley, 89, of Old Sprakers Road in Sprakers, New York died Saturday evening, September 19, 2009 at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam, New York.
She was born in the Town of Minden on May 10, 1920, the daughter of Emery and Lillie Hayes Sanders. She was educated in Fort Plain and in Gloversville schools and was a lifelong area resident. She attended Hartwick College and became a Deacon of the church. She was a member of St. John's & St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Canajoharie, New York and she also held the position of Chaplain for the Canajoharie Senior Citizens for many years.
Mrs. Shibley was an Avon Lady in the area for 30 years. She enjoyed camping at the Great Sacandaga Lake and loved tending her garden.
On October 25, 1944, she married Robert J. Shibley at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Canajoharie, New York. He pre-deceased her in 1982. She was also pre-deceased by their son, Robert E. Shibley, her sister, Lucille Sanders, her brother, Bernard Sanders and their son-in-law, Lamont Kramer.
Mrs. Shibley is survived by her two daughters, Sandra S. and her husband, Charles Miller of Johnstown, New York, and Barbara J. Kramer of Palatine Bridge, New York her sister, Ruth Herron of Nelliston, New York, her grandchildren, Jeffery Miller and his wife, Lee Anne of New Hampshire, Daniel Miller and his wife, Amy, of Maryland, Carly Kramer of Ravena, New York, Robert Kramer of Washingtonville, New York, Sarah Shibley of New York City and Diana Kelly and her husband, Gary of Virginia, and three great-grandchildren, Griffith, Teagan and Ella Miller.
