Obituary of Hilda Young Jewell

Mrs. Hilda Young Jewell, 96, formerly of Orchard Street and Arkell Hall, Canajoharie, NY, died, Sunday, October 4, 2009 at the Wilkinson Center in Amsterdam, NY. Born on September 1, 1913 in the town of Springfield, NY, she was the daughter of Fred Young and Maude Willsey Young. Mrs. Jewell was a graduate of VanHornesville Central School. She was a lifelong area resident. Mrs. Jewell owned and operated her own beauty shop, Hilda's Beauty Shop, in Canajoharie, NY. She was a member of the Canajoharie United Methodist Church. Mrs. Jewell enjoyed sewing and baking. She loved playing cards with her family. In 1938, Mrs. Jewell married her first husband, George Maring. He preceded her in death in 1945. She then married, Jessie Jewell in 1965. She was predeceased by Mr. Jewell in 1966. In addition to both her husbands, Mrs. Jewell was also predeceased by her sisters, Irene Lambert, Ethel Mowrey, Grace Sliter, Elsie Scott, Helen Cowait, Hazel Campione; and brothers, Dorr, Edwin, Cola, Harold, Alva, Alton, and Rozelle Young. Mrs. Jewell is survived by her son, Robert H. Maring of Canajoharie, NY; sisters, Marion Benton of Canajoharie, NY, Virginia Haley of AZ; grandson, Jason and his wife Melissa Maring of NH; granddaughter, Becky and her husband Brian LaLonde of Johnstown, NY; great-grandchildren, Josh and Alyssa LaLonde and Lucy Maring.
