Obituary of Michael Gallagher
Mr. Michael J. Gallagher, 58, of South Buel Road, Canajoharie, NY passed away on January 3, 2025, at the Samuel Stratton Albany VA Hospital, surrounded by his loving devoted wife, and children.
Michael was born in Islip, NY on April 9, 1966, the son of Thomas Gallagher, and Evelyn McGinnis Gallagher.
Mike graduated from Canajoharie High School, class of 1984, and shortly after enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He served from 1985 until his honorable discharge in 1993. Following his discharge, he returned to New York where he started at the Wal-Mart Distribution Center in Sharon Springs. He worked from 1995 until 2021 when he retired as an operations manager. While working here, he also met his wife Joann.
Most of his life was spent in the local area. He and his wife enjoyed traveling, cruises, camping, spending time with his children and grandchildren, and drinking Bud Light with good friends around a campfire.
He was predeceased by his mother Evelyn Gallagher.
Survivors include his wife, Joann Gallagher; children Noelle Harper (Michael Reposa), Alison Bechard (Ted), Kay Daugherty (Todd), Jackson Harper (Autumn), Elizabeth Gallagher (Bruce McCann); many grandchildren; Two brothers, Thomas and Patrick Gallagher; and nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will receive friends and relatives, from 4:00-6:00 PM, on Thursday, January 9th, 2025 at the chapel of Houghtaling and Hanley Funeral Home, 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY 13317. A Prayer Service will take place after at 6:00. Burial will take place at a private ceremony in the Fort Plain cemetery in the spring, with military honors by the US Marine Corps.
