Obituary of Lillian Nellis

Mrs. Lillian Nellis, 88, most recently of St. Johnsville Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center, died Tuesday morning, November 24, 2009 at St. Johnsville Nursing Home.
Born on May 21, 1921 in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada, she was the daughter of Newton Talmadge McElmon and Laura Dooks McElmon. She graduated from High School in New York City. She had been a local area resident since the 1950s, previously residing in New York City and Long Island.
Mrs. Nellis worked with the Department of History and Archives in Fonda, NY in many capacities. She was pleased to be named "Older Worker of the Year" by the Office of the Aging in 1998.
Mrs. Nellis was a member of Salem United Methodist Church in Stone Arabia.
She recently served on the Board of Elections.
She played piano and enjoyed playing pinochle, pitch and other card games with friends and family. She liked reading,gardening and enjoyed word puzzles in her younger years. She was a member of the former Fort Plain Otsquago Chapter of the Eastern Star.
Mrs. Nellis was predeceased by her husband, Amon Nellis; brother, Carl McElmon; and sisters, Pearl Hine, Sadie Crowell and Naomi Tudor.
She is survived by her daughters, Laura Flynn of Fort Plain, NY, Ellen Quinn of Annapols, MD; son, Stanley Wolaniuk of Colorado; brother, Charles McElmon of Dallas, TX; four grandsons and nieces, nephews and cousins.
