Obituary of Ramon Oldick

Mr. Ramon E. Oldick, 91, of State Highway 5s, Fort Plain, NY, died at the Palatine Nursing Home early September 30th, 2024.

He was born in the Town of Minden, NY, on December 24, 1932, the son of Harland and Nancy Grainer Oldick.

Ramon graduated from Fort Plain High School, Class of 1950, and lived in the local area his entire life.

He served in the US Army from 1957 until his discharge in 1959.

In 1960, he and his father established Oldick Milling in Nelliston, NY; in the early 1980s, he became the sole owner and continued to operate it until he retired in 2015.

He enjoyed farming, playing cards, getting ice cream, and attending family gatherings. He was also a fan of the Buffalo Bills.

On November 3, 1956, he married Janet Kretser; she predeceased him on February 5, 2016.

He was also preceded by his two sisters, Marion Mikus and Jane Lasher, and brothers, William "Red" Oldick and Ralph Oldick.

He is survived by his three daughters, Ramona and Scott Wrobel, Cheryl and Ed Goodspeed, and Brenda Herringshaw; brother, Don Oldick; sisters, Betty Steele, Lucille Oldick, and Denise Oldick; grandchildren Shannon, Jennifer, Kim, Tammy, Ryan, Heather, Kyle, Andrew, Constance, and Travis; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A Graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 3rd, 2024, at Evergreen Cemetery, Fonda, NY.

Arrangments are under the direction of Houghtaling and Hanley Funeral Home, 20 Otsego Street, Canajoahrie, NY 13317.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Ayers Animal Shelter, 133 Hilltop Road,  Sprakers, NY 12166.
