Mr. Robert E. Harbster, 87, of Barclay Street, Canajoharie, New York died, Friday, December 04, 2009 at Wilkinson Residential Healthcare Facility in Amsterdam, NY. Born on December 5, 1921 in Fort Plain, NY, he was the son of Edwin and Elizabeth Harbster. Mr. Harbster was educated at Fort Plain Schools and was a lifelong area resident. Mr. Harbster was employed at Beech-Nut in Canajoharie from 1942 until retiring in 1958. He was also the manager of the former Fort Plain Bowl. He was a Veteran of World War II, serving in the Army Air Corp as Private First Class. Mr. Harbster was of Protestant faith. He was a life member of the VFW Earl Stock Memorial Post #3275 and a member of the Fort Plain American Legion Post #554. Mr. Harbster was an avid golfer, hunter, fisherman, baseball player and bowler. Mr. Harbster is survived by a daughter, Michelle Harbster of Haywood, CA; sons, Robert G. Harbster of Cochise, AZ, Michael Harbster of Newburgh, NY; step-daughters, Debra Comandi of Newburgh, NY, Celia Cruz of VA; and a nephew, David Harbster of AZ. He is predeceased by his brother, Richard Harbster.
