Mr. H. Edward Darrow, 91, of Hilltop Rd., Sprakers, New York, died, Monday, December 07, 2009 at Albany Medical Center Hospital in Albany, NY following a brief illness.
Born on September 5, 1918 in the Town of Root, he was the son of Charles Darrow and Marjorie A. Olmstead Darrow. He was a graduate of Canajoharie Central School, class of 1937 and had been a lifelong area resident.
Mr. Darrow was the owner and operator of his Dairy Farm in the Town of Root. It had been a family farm for over 150 years.
Mr. Darrow was a member of Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church in Fort Plain, NY.
He was a member and longtime master of the Mapletown Grange and of the Montgomery County Farm Bureau. He was also a member of the Dairylea Co-op, Chairman of the Montgomery County Soil and Water Conservation Association, and a member of Curly Q's Square Dancing. He was well known in the dairy industry in the local area.
Mr. Darrow was a kind and generous man who was well loved and respected by his family and friends.
On May 27, 1944 in Canajoharie, NY, he was married to Anne K. Davi Darrow. Together they celebrated 57 years of marriage. She preceded him in death on November 20, 2001.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Darrow was also predeceased by his sister, Dorothy Monk.
Mr. Darrow is survived by his daughters, Deborah and Robert Buck of Johnstown, NY, Phyllis and Anthony Lapi of Sprakers, NY; a son, Charles E. and Laura May Darrow of Sprakers, NY; brother, Kenneth A. and Mary Darrow of Sprakers, NY; grandchildren, Nicolle Littrell, Matthew and Judith Littrell, Michael and Robyn Lapi, Jacob and Karen Darrow, Timothy Lapi; great-grandchildren, Laura Littrell, Benjamin Littrell, Carolyn Littrell, Leo Horchler, Miles Lapi, Grayson Lapi, Samuel Darrow, Jacqueline Darrow; step-grandchildren, Cortney Buck, Morgan Buck, Kagan Buck, Aubrey Dingman, Debbie Stella, Jesse Stella, Amanda Stella; step-great-grandchildren, Dylan Rachon, Paige Dingman, Brenden Epting; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
