Obituary of Gary Harold Barringer
Mr. Gary Harold Barringer, 76, of Vandeusenville, New York, died on May 17th, 2024, at St. Mary's Hospital following a brief illness. Gary was born in Amsterdam, New York, on September 19, 1947. The son of Edmund Barringer, Jr., and Helen Meyers Barringer both predeceased him in death.
Gary graduated from Cherry Valley High School, class of 1965. After graduation, he started working at General Electric in Schenectady, where he learned to be a machinist. After a time, he left GE and enlisted in the US Navy. Upon completing his service, he returned to GE, where he worked until retirement.
Gary lived his entire life in the local area and was well-known by many. He always had time to stop and chat and support others. He served on the Zoning Board of Appeals, was an active member of the AM Vets Post 2000, Fort Plain, NY, serving as treasurer there, and even found time to enjoy riding motorcycles.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his former wife, Elaine Sweet Barringer.
He is survived by his son, Justin (Julia) Barringer; daughter, Tiana (Walt) Leonard; grandchildren, Nick, Olivia, Mykenna, and Ella Rose; and many cousins.
Arrangements are under the direction of Houghtaling and Hanley Funeral Home, 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY 13317.
The family invites everyone to a graveside memorial service at Fort Plain Cemetery on Saturday, June 1, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. With pastor Greg Spohnburg, officiating and military honors offered by the US Navy in conjunction with the Brad Schrell Memorial Squad of the Am Vets Post 2000, Fort Plain.
