Obituary of George Hathaway

Mr. George Hathaway, 75, of Slate Hill Road, Sharon Springs, NY, passed away on May 4, 2024, due to complications from Parkinson’s disease.
George was born in Milford Massachusetts to Herman and Irene (Veres) Hathaway on December 21, 1948. He graduated from Uxbridge High School, then attended the UMass Amherst Stockbridge School of Agriculture, where he made some lifelong friends. Following college, George worked in construction for many years. From 1970-1976, he also served in the Army National Guard, obtaining the rank of SP5.
On October 15, 1976, he married Louise Chamberlain in North Uxbridge, Mass. They moved to Sharon Springs, NY, and started farming in 1990. George also worked as a milk truck driver for Greene Trucking of Amsterdam until his retirement. He enjoyed working the family farm, fishing, watching sports, and operating any equipment he could get his hands on. George was hard-working, kind, and compassionate. He will be greatly missed.
George is survived by his wife of 47 years, Louise Hathaway; his two daughters, Lynn Hathaway and Karen (Joe) Prall; his brother, Garrick Hathaway; sister, Imogene (Dan) Stack; granddaughter, Sarah Prall; three nephews and four nieces.
The family will receive friends and relatives from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Friday, May 10, 2024, at the Houghtaling and Hanley Funeral Home, 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie NY 13317. A public graveside service will be held at Slate Hill Cemetery on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at 1:30pm.
George loved the Lord and was a member of the Christian Church of Rural Grove. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Christian Church of Rural Grove, 170 Rural Grove Rd., Sprakers, NY 12166.
