Obituary of Dennis E. Smith

Mr. Dennis E. Smith, 71, died peacefully at his home on Clinton Road, Canajoharie, on April 22, 2024.

Dennis was born on April 23, 1952, in Amsterdam, NY, the son of the late John F. Smith and Evelyn VanValkenburgh Smith.

Dennis was a graduate of Canajoharie High School, class of 1971.

For 20-plus years, he worked as a brick paver for SyrStone. When he was not working, he enjoyed snowmobiling, camping, motorcycles, golf, hunting, watching NASCAR, auto racing, and the NHRA drag racing and motocross.

Dennis was of the Catholic faith.

He is survived by his brother, Edward Smith of Whitesboro, NY; uncles Hugh ( Delores) VanValkenburgh and  Louis VanValkenburgh; and several cousins.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 4th, from 9:00 to 10:00 AM at the Houghtaling and Hanley Funeral Home, 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY 13317, with a funeral following at 10:00 AM.

Burial will follow at St. Peter and Pauls Cemetery.
