Obituary of Walter George Ellsworth

Walter George Ellsworth, 89 years of age, NYS Route 10, Palatine Bridge, joined his wife, Millie, in Heaven on November 25, 2023. He was born on September 22,1934, the eldest son of Floyd Nelson Ellsworth and Catherine Demarist Lawrence and grew up in Port Ewen, NY, graduating from Kingston High School. He attended Cornell University on a ROTC scholarship attaining a bachelor’s degree in Dairy Management.
Walter met his wife, Millicent Florence Hoffman, on a blind date while she was attending college at SUNY New Paltz. They were married on Sunday, June 14, 1959. They had celebrated their 55th anniversary shortly before Millie’s passing in July 2014.
Walter was a hard-working dairy farmer for most of his life. Starting as a herdsman in Honeoye Falls, moving to Gardiner, and then bringing his family to his own farm in Palatine Bridge in December 1965. He was active in Farm Bureau, Production Credit, and served on the board of several agricultural agencies and organizations.
Later in life, Walter worked for DHIA testing for many farms in the area; driving school bus for Canajoharie Central School, field auditing for Central National Bank, retiring as a driver from Access Transportation in 2012.
Walter is survived by his three children, Sue-Ann (David) Wheadon, Peter (Elaine) Ellsworth, and Thomas Ellsworth; grandchildren Vanessa Wheadon and Walter John Ellsworth; four sisters, Nancy Prince, Mary (Arthur) Libourel, Joan Mansell, and Sally (Graham) Brough; and many beloved nephews and nieces.
Viewing hours will be at Houghtaling and Hanley Funeral Home in Canajoharie, NY on Wednesday, November29, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. to Noon, with a graveside service following at Canajoharie Falls Cemetery, Canajoharie.
