Mr. Charles H. Klump, 92, of Maple Ave., Canajoharie, NY, died Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at Palatine Nursing Home following a brief illness.
Born on April 19, 1917 in Amsterdam, NY, he was the son of Herman K. Klump and Ella B. Peters Klump. He was a graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch High School in Amsterdam, class of 1936. Mr. Klump spent his lifetime in the local area.
Mr. Klump was employed by Conover's Department Store in Canajoharie, NY for over 50 years.
Mr. Klump first served in the U.S. Army from December 1936 until May 1939. He was stationed in Hawaii. He then enlisted in the U.S. Navy "Seabees" in October 1943. Mr. Klump served with the U.S. Navy until 1945 with a rank of Motor Machinist Mate Second Class.
He was of Lutheran faith.
Mr. Klump was a member of the Fort Plain American Legion Post #554, the Fort Plain VFW Earl Stock Memorial Post #3275, the Canajoharie Volunteer Fire Department, serving as Assistant chief; and was also a lifetime member of the Canajoharie Boiling Pot Eagles #3846.
Mr. Klump married Dorothy Booth in Palatine Bridge, NY. In addition to his wife, Dorothy Klump of Canajoharie, NY, he is also survived by one son, Charles R. and Joyce Klump of Palatine Bridge, NY; sister, Anna Maria Quini of Amsterdam, NY; grandsons, Gregory Klump of Palatine Bridge, NY, Gary Klump of Seattle, WA; granddaughter, Amanda Klump of Sacramento, CA, and step-granddaughter, Stacey Biancucci of Bend, OR.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Jane Olmstead Klump in April 1984; three brothers, Herman, Jr., Harold and Martin; sister, Louise Conover.
Burial will take place in the spring at Maple Ave. Cemetery with full military honors.
