Obituary of Jon A. Lehtonen

Mr. Jon A. Lehtonen, 66, of Hacketstown, New Jersey, died on August 14th, 2023 at the Morristown Memorial Hospital.
Jon was born in Yonkers, Ny the son of Victor and Regina Kangas Lehtonen. Jon was a graduate of Canajoharie High School with a Regents Diploma.
After working a few years at Beech-Nut and Lifesavers he later moved to New Jersey in 1979, and started a career as a safe smith, which he did for over 8 years. He was a 35 year member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America, Local 254, NJ and was very active in the union and participated in many volunteer activities over the years.
He was a skilled tradesman in many disciplines including but not limited to safesmith, rigging, welding, millwright, and carpentry.
He was also a proud member of the Three Crowns, 704 Swedish American Fraternal Organization in NJ, serving a term as Chairman and multiple terms as Master of Ceremonies.
Jon won a silver and bronze medal in the junior olympics in 1969 for events in swimming. He loved to ride his motorcycle, recently he had been learning to play the piano and loved to walk and take his dog with him everywhere he could.
He is survived by his three children, Eric Lehtonen, Angelique and her husband George "Bo" Snyder III, and Cassandra Lehtonen; two grandchildren Paisleigh and Emerie; sister Victoria Hines; and niece and nephew Desiree Hines and Gregory Hines.
The family will be planning a celebration of his life in New Jersey, and announced.
The family will receive friends and relatives on Saturday September 23rd from 10:00-12:00 am with a memorial service following at 12:00noon at the chapel of Houghtaling and Smith Funeral Home, 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY 13317. Burial will take place in Fort Plain Cemetery privately..
