Obituary of Lois Van Schaick

Mrs. Lois Van Schaick, 81, most recently of New Jersey, passed away at The Chelsea, at the Country Cottage, West Milford, New Jersey.
She was born in Jersey City, New Jersey, August 7, 1942, the daughter of Fred Bode and Lillian Ochs Bode, both who predeceased her.
Lois graduated from Saddlebrook Highschool. Following graduation, she started working for the Reformed Church of New York City, and while on a weekend getaway she met her future husband. On April 15, 1961 at the 1st Reformed Church in Rochelle Park, NJ, she married Leonard J. Van Schaick, who together they shared over 55 years of marriage, until his passing on January 11, 2017. Once her children were older she went back to work starting off at the Kelly girls, and then onto Lockheed Martin in Malta, NY from which she would retire from.
While living in Rural Grove, Lois had served as Justice of the Peace for a while, eventually moving to Ballston Spa to be closer to her work. An important part of Lois' life and her family's life, was Rural Grove Christian Church where she worshipped, taught Sunday School, and played the organ and piano for many years. Lois also enjoyed traveling with Leonard in his truck, and just wherever they went. Her faith in Jesus Christ was the most important part of her life, and we know she is with Him now.
She was predeceased in death by her husband, parents and sister Terri.
Mrs. Van Schaick is survived by her daughter, Linda and Bill Nare of Fonda, NY; son, Jay and Linda Van Schaick of West Milford, NJ; sister Priscilla and her husband Don of Florida; grandchildren, Joshua and his wife Kristen Nare, Isaiah Nare and his wife, Haley, Jeremiah Nare and his wife, Jennette, Hannah Gies and her husband, Joshua, Jay Van Schaick, Anna Van Schaick, Rachael Van Schaick; great-grandchildren, Ethan, Silas, Eliza, Jeb, Fritz, Judah, Shiloh and Rebecca; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family will receive friends and relatives on Saturday 19th of August 2023 from 11:00-12:00, at Houghtaling and Smith Funeral home, 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY 13317 with a funeral following at noon. Burial will take place at Christian Church Cemetery, Charleston Four Corners, NY.
