Muriel I. Smith Obituary
Mrs. Muriel I. Smith, 93, of Caroga Lake, passed away on July 17, 2023, while under the care of hospice at her daughter’s home in Gloversville.
She was born in Cobleskill, NY on July 30, 1929, the daughter of Maurice and Cynthia Butler Barnes, both who predeceased her.
She was a graduate of Schenevus High School, class of 1947.
In 1971 her and her husband moved to Caroga Lake, prior to that she had lived in Sharon Springs, NY.
On September 22, 1965, she married Edward C. Smith in Connecticut. Together they celebrated 38 years of marriage, until his passing on November 8, 2003.
She was also predeceased by her son William “Bill” Empie, her brother and sister-in-law Stanley and Rosalie Barnes and sister Wanda A. Johns and brother-in-law Howard.
Survivors include her daughter Cindy (Empie) and husband Bob Brink; son Timothy Empie; grandchildren; great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Graveside services will take place privately at Canajoharie Falls Cemetery,
