Obituary of Charles A Lawyer

Mr. Charles A. Lawyer, 61, of Fort Plain, NY passed away on June 10^th, 2023 at the St. Johnsville Nursing Home.

He was born in Cobleskill, NY on July 5, 1961, the son of Charles Howard Lawyer and Marjorie Stevens Dodson, but was raised by Zane Floyd Dodson, due to his father’s death at a very young age.

In 1979, he graduated from Cazenovia High School.

Most recently he had been working as a loader and unloader at the Wal-Mart Distribution Center in Sharon Springs, NY.  Prior to that he had a career working for the railroad that was cut short due to illness.

Charles lived most of his life in Fort Plain and enjoyed going to see cars and motorcycles at car shows, fishing, but most of all spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Along with the loss of his father, he had been predeceased by his stepfather and his son Charles E. Lawyer, and niece Sandra Bowley.

Survivors include his mother; Marjorie Dodson; daughter Tasha Lawyer; sister Ida Lawyer (Dan); brother Ralph Lawyer; sister Beth-Ann Bongiorno; grandchildren Jacob Sweet, Hayden Lawyer; Charles Lawyer, and Jeweluis Lawyer; as well as nieces and nephews, Aletha Herring (Jerry), Daniel Bowley, Liz Lawyer, Joseph Lawyer, and several  cousins.

The family will receive friends and family from 11:00 to 12:00PM, on Thursday June 15th, 2023 at the Gray-Houghtaling and Smith Funeral Home, 34 Center Street, Fort Plain, NY 13339, with a memorial service following immediately after at noon.

The burial will take place at Fort Plain cemetery with his son.

A Celebration of Charlie's life will take place at the Fort Plain Fireman's Park following the burial.
