Mr. Robert G. Elliott, 80, of West Street, Fort Plain, New York, died, Tuesday morning, April 6, 2010 at St. Mary's Hospital, Amsterdam, NY.
Born on July 10, 1929 in Norwich, NY, he was the son of Earl J. Elliott and Lois Hobson Elliott. Mr. Elliott was a graduate of Norwich High School and the Albany Business College. He had been a local area resident since 1957, previously residing in Norwich.
Following his retirement, Mr. Elliott worked for Parts Plus in Fort Plain. Prior to retiring, he worked for J&R Lumber Sales. He also worked for Briggs Lumber starting as an assistant manager in 1957 and later becoming manager. Mr. Elliott worked for his dad's lumber mill, E.J. Elliott Lumber Co. in Norwich, NY from the time he graduated high school until 1957.
He was a member of the Fort Plain United Methodist Church.
Mr. Elliott was a member of the Fort Plain Masonic Lodge #433. He was Master of the Lodge in 1968 and District Deputy for the Fulton-Montgomery County District from 1987-1988. He was a Past Patron of the Eastern Star, the former Otswago #297, and a former member of the Ziyara-Shrine, the Hiram Union Chapter Royal Arch Masons #53 Red Lodge, and the Scottish Rite Valley of Utica. Mr. Elliott was a Little League Coach in the past and was an avid bowler at the Masonic Lodge. He loved to read and watch Jeopardy. He loved to travel and enjoyed winters in Florida.
On October 16, 1948 in Norwich, NY he married Florette A. Hamilton. Together they celebrated 61 years of marriage.
He is survived by his wife, Florette Elliott of Fort Plain, NY; daughter, Lisa and Rick Miller of Fort Plain, NY; sons, Brad Elliott and Leona Kretser of Fort Plain, NY, Scott and Doris Elliott of Monongah, WV; brother, David and Marie Elliott of FL; sister-in-law, Joann Elliott of CT; grandchildren, Rebecca Nutter of GA, Charles Elliott of WV, Stacey Miller of KY, Matthew Elliott of WV, Greg Miller of Carthage, NY, Jaclyn Miller of Fort Plain, NY; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mr. Elliott is predeceased by a brother, Richard Elliott on September 12, 1995.
